Meeting Malala Story

Below is a short excerpt of the hardbound book available to 12 winning bidders of the Malala Cartoon print we are selling to raise funds for the 2025 #SheBelongs Global Cup.

Meeting Malala

“Adam, I want to donate my Malala cartoon to help you fundraise for #SheBelongs.”

When Pat Bagley, longtime, some would say legendary, political cartoonist for the Salt Lake Tribune said this to me in early June 2024 I was floored. He and his wife, Kate, had just seen our #SheBelongs documentary film and Pat quickly acted on the inspiration he felt. Pat had created the powerful cartoon shown below, which was published by the Salt Lake Tribune on October 15, 2012, just six days after the future Nobel Peace Prize winner was shot in the head on October 9, by the Taliban in her homeland of Pakistan simply for going to school and advocating for the rights of all girls to do the same.

Two weeks later, when Kate, Pat, and I first got together on their cozy porch in Salt Lake City to discuss the possibilities, Pat mused, “How cool would it be if you could get Malala to sign this?!”

“Umm, yeah, way cool!” I remember saying.

Meanwhile, on the very next day, June 20th, a budding partnership with an amazing Denmark-based organization called Girl Power, led by another courageous woman, Khalida Popal, officially bloomed.

The rest is, as they say, history. If you are interested in bidding for one of these very special prints please visit this page and let us know right away.
